For this project I had been chosen to be on the script writing team. This required me to work with a group of other members of the class in order for us to create 5 scripts with our writing teacher/ script editor Lilie Ferrari. The process of creating these scripts started with the writing team creating the arcs and traits of our characters that were based off the potential actors we had in favour of performing in the series. To form these characters we originally started with creating our main character 'Joel'we all discussed as a group with lilie who our character of 'Joel' would be, we did this by starting off with his life at home, who his family were, what is his job, his past education. Etc. Then we moved onto splitting into groups of two's and creating our other characters in the same way. After creating those characters, we were then assigned each other different characters that we had originally worked on and changed groups, we had then added the tragedies and character arks which our characters had not yet been given. After creating our characters and developing our character profiles. We were all assigned into different groups again to create script breakdowns which would involve two members of the writing team working on the events that would take place on that certain episode. When all the preparation was done for all the scripts we were all assigned an episode each to create our own drafts of the scripts to do this the same episodes were handed over to each member of the team so writing inputs were involved in the scripts. We repeated these this process twice for the other drafts which we had feedback from the improve each time from Lilie herself. After all the scripts were finally created and the crowd funding team had finished their campaign, we were put into our productions roles where we had to perform various tasks to get everything full prepared before shooting started a few weeks later. I was chosen to be a production assistant where my role specifically was to help with various tasks the that the production manager would set me, the main task I had during pre-production, was to organise the catering with Matt, after doing various research into deals that we could get for the catering and taking into account the dietary requirements of all members of the cast and crew, we had organised a catering company to deliver to us for two days to feed all cast and crew. As for my involvement on set, I wasn't really utilised in any way I had been occasionally given tasks such as boom operator every hour or two, because of my lack of involvement I discussed with my tutors if I could leave because I would rather I had done important work needed doing so after each day that I would leave before filming had wrapped up. I also didn't attend the filming on Sunday due to financial issues. After filming had wrapped up, I returned to college to help out with the social media page to help promote the release of the episodes. I feel that I am impressed with certain elements of the final product of the series such as the camera work, the direction and some of the performances of the actors. But I feel as if this entire project was slightly a missed opportunity of behalf of the students and the many others that helped create this series. think this because many creative decisions that were decided by members of the team and for the ones that weren't discussed with the students, reflected on how our much passion was brought into the project. I think if the students were offered the opportunity to create their own original stories and concepts for the series we would of been more passionate about the series as a whole. My opinion on how I performed my role was that I feel I did the best possible job i could from my writing perspective. I created the character of Melinda, I wrote episode 1 and I contributed some of my past writing knowledge onto other members of the team in order to help them. As for my production role I feel that even though I don't feel my role was really required whilst filming was going on, I didn't fulfil my role totally to how I originally planned to, but because of my lack of involvement during filming I found that everything that my role required me to do before production had started was totally up to standard I performed all the tasks I was required to do and I worked closely with my production manager to understand if I was completing my task up to the best standard. As far as my development of my skills I felt like writing I gained a large amount of experience in creating characters and being able to integrate multiple characters into one story. I had done screenwriting before in the past but I had never contributed to a story and narrative as wide as this so working within a group of writers gave me a real understanding of how writing teams decide upon ideas and how those ideas may not working with everyone, so your ideas may be shut down because it may not fit the narrative to majority of the team. Learning how to write under a professional script editor taught me that creating scripts requires a large amount of attention to detail and when certain elements may be wrong in script re-writing them is key, because when filming is started the scripts need to be completely perfect in order for the cast and crew performances to be the best possible. Learning the skills has taught my that the role of the writer is very difficult on a production but if you follow the advice given by others and pay great attention to what the script editor says you can perform your role to the best of your ability. As for production my role as production assistant I felt that I slightly developed my skills in understanding the organisation and the ability to be able to follow the instructions given to you on a production and using your own initiative to solve any issues which may come into play. Overall I feel that this entire module in the course developed my understanding of how major productions are carried out and produced and what the process of creating a script entails and the challenges you face to perfect the scripts.
